Week Twenty-two: This week the entire surface of the rink has been sandblasted and prepped for its final finish coating and paint.
Week Three:Most of the large rubble from the prior rink demolition has been hauled away along with the old steel tubes, insulation, and PVC pipes. Crews have now started removing the face of the existing wall with a high pressure water blaster.
Week Two:Since last week, crews have successfully removed the top layer of the old rink floor. All that is left now is hauling out the deep gravel base and blue foam insulation. This is accomplished by the front end loaders scooping it up and loading it on dump trucks to be hauled away. Work has started on the rink machinery itself, by reclaiming and recycling old cooling fluids and refrigerants.

Week Four:Work continues even with a week of heavy rain.
In this first picture you can see the jackhammer punching through the rink floor that consists of several inches of concrete embedded with rebar, cooling tubes, large pipes and foam insulation.
Here we have this massive backhoe that comes in after a section has been jackhammered, and rips out sections of the rink floor.
Nearing the end of the first week, the crews have done a good job tearing up and hauling much of the rink flooring away, but there is still more Demolition to be done!
Here we have the front end loader scooping up a tremendous amount of gravel, and then dumping it into one of the many waiting dump trucks.
In the Ice Rink Compressor room, various cooling fluids and refrigerants have been reclaimed and recycled, and old piping and insulation around the chiller have been removed.
The tall tower condenser behind the visitor center has started to be dismantled. This is done with a cutting torch.
Crews are still dismantling the old Mechanical room .This is all done with a cutting torch as well. The chiller has been removed and all the pipes have been recycled.
The rink drainage system pipes have been installed and buried. This area can be seen in the darker areas around the perimeter inside the rink.

Welding Rink Piping in the Mechanical Room
Whats missing here? The old condenser tower is gone. It was cut up and hauled away!
Week Five: The rink and pool drainage lines have been put in as well as the fountain pipes for the reflecting pool.
Starting to add sand and gravel to the rink
floor and grading it with the equipment
A Bobcat filling in part of a drainage line
The giant Glycol tanks have been removed from the mechanical room freeing up a lot of needed space!
Finally our brand new professional Blademaster
skate sharpening machine has arrived!
It was graciously purchased by
The Friends of Quiet Waters Park!!! Thank You!!!!
Week Six: The absolutely gorgeous weather has allowed a lot of work on the rink to be done. The perimeter of the rink was formed, reinforced with rebar, and was poured on Friday.
Here you see the outer perimeter of the rink /pool
slab all wired up and reinforced with rebar.
The concrete truck pours the mixture into the form and...
...workers then spread it out with shovels and trowels.
A worker then comes along and smoothes it all out!
Week Seven: Lots of rain but...
...the work still continues.
The complete floor border of the ice rink was
poured and cured to a nice smooth surface.
A layer of filter media cloth was laid down over
the gravel base and covered with a layer of sand.
The sand layer is then spread out
over the cloth and graded.
Week Eight: The gravel layer has been spread out and graded. Pink foam insulation board has started to be put down.
Here we have a well insulated trench dug and
the first header pipes have been installed.
The tower condenser support poles have been formed
up and poured with concrete. Soon the metal forms
will be removed showing the concrete pillars.
Week Nine: Crews have placed thick foam board insulation over the entire rink floor.
A close up of the insulation.
The concrete forms have been removed showing
the support pillars for the condenser.
Weeks Ten through Thirteen: Construction is on hold while the contractor waits for the coolant lines to be delivered.
Week Fourteen: Crews have begun work installing main header pipes and cooling pipe hangars.
Close up of cooling pipe hangars and supports.
Both rink compressors have been
inspected, refurbished, and repainted
Week Fifteen: This week was more or less just like last week with a lot of pipes and welding!
Week Sixteen: Much more of the same. Moving along with welding and laying miles of cooling pipes.
A crane unloading more heavy steel cooling tube!
Miles of cooling tubes...
and welds.
Pavers are starting to come up to make way for new electric lines.
Week Seventeen: Lots of progress this week. The welding continues and is almost finished!
Here we have a worker welding in a
U loop into the cooling pipe.
Another worker grinding the pipe.
The brand new condenser has arrived
onthe back of a tractor trailer.
A special motorized crane was brought in
to assemble the two parts and then lift it up
and place it on top of the tall concrete pillars.
Week Eighteen: The rink piping and welding was finally done and prepared for the concrete pour. Concrete trucks came throughout the night, and the rink floor was entirely poured.
A large concrete pump and boom stretches over the rink and...
A small hovercraft smoothes out the concrete.
pumps concrete onto the floor.
Workers spreading and smoothing out concrete floor.
Week Nineteen: The concrete pour has been completed and main rink piping has been installed, welded, and insulated.
The rink is covered with plastic and is kept wet in order for the concrete to cure slowly.
The ground has been trenched and the main supply lines have been installed, welded, and heavily insulated.
The large brine pumps have been installed.
Week Twenty: While the concrete continues to harden and cure, crews have been busy with trenching and piping.
All the main piping that was laid last week has been completed and reburied.
The sound tech crews have been busy wiring up the rink with a new
sound system purchased by The Friends of Quiet Waters Park.
A lot of work has taken place in the mechanical room where various
pumps and piping have been set up and welded together.
Week Twenty-one: The plastic has been removed and the concrete pad has fully cured.
The mechanical room continues to see the bulk of the work. In addition, the outside condenser unit has been piped.
With the major underground piping completed and buried, the pavers are now starting to be replaced by workers.
Finally this week, we have yours truly testing out the brand new professional skate sharpener that was purchased by The Friends of Quiet Waters Park.
The pavers have been replaced.
More rink piping in the mechanical room
as well as electrical work.
Finally the compressors have been painted
a nice shade of blue!
Week Twenty-three: This week there has been a lot of work on the different electrical and piping systems.
The bulk of the work has been inside the mechanical room with the installation
of the control panel, electrical panels and wiring, as well as more piping!
The brand new sound system
for the most part has been installed
both inside and outside around the rink.
Sounds Great!
Weeks Twenty-four and Twenty-five: There was a lot of surface work on the concrete slab as well as electrical work in the mechanical room.
Here we have a lot of electrical wires that are
being routed to the various control panels, etc.
The chillers and piping have been insulated.
Finally 404 pairs of figure and hockey rental skates have come in!
Week Twenty-six: The rink floor has been prepped for finishing and painting.
Sod has been laid down, has erased all
traces of bare dirt, and is growing strong.
The mechanical room has been very busy this last week.
All the electrical work and insulation work has been completed.
Week Twenty-seven: The rink waiting to be dry from the recent rain.
Many gallons of surface epoxy
and paint to be applied soon.
The task of sharpening 404 pairs of ice skates
has begun. Pictured are some of the hockey
skates that have been completed.
Weeks Twenty-eight and twenty-nine: The rink surface has been layered with one coat of epoxy to make it nice and smooth.
No that is not ice yet! Just a light colored epoxy surface.
Here we have a worker buffing the epoxy coat to prep the surface for the final layers of surface paint.
Finally the overhauled Zamboni has returned and is ready for service complete with a new paint job!
Week Thirty: Lots of rain but the painting was completed. The dasherboards are now being installed.
Week Thirty-one: The rink dasher boards are complete and the skate shed is in place!
The rubber mats used to protect the pavers
have been put into place.
Ice rink employees have started to make ice!
The rink is just about complete. A few more layers of ice and its ready to go!!
